Permanent Vacancies

It is a requirement that all State and Commonwealth Government departments advertise their permanent vacancies so that eligible members of the Australian community can have the opportunity to apply.

How is this done?
If you've only been looking on the popular internet job boards or in the newspapers, you've probably missed out on most of the vacancies!  The Commonwealth Government and each State Government have their own websites that they advertise on.   These sites list all of the permanent vacancies available.

For links to each of these internet sites, see www.publicservicejobs.com.au or jump straight to your state here:

Temporary vacancies

Temporary vacancies don't have to be advertised, so they're a bit trickier to find.  A lot are advertised on internet job boards, such as www.mycareer.com.au or www.careerone.com.au, and some departments maintain their own applicant register.   If you would like to get your foot in the door at a particular agency, you should call their HR or recruitment department and ask how they go about recruiting temporary staff.

CareerOne Australian Job Search lists the most government vacancies of all the internet job boards including permanent positions, temporary positions, and contract positions through on hire organisations.
